RARE 1880 Cabinet Photo, African American Man withLapel Pin, Corinth, Mississippi
Very Nice, Scarce ANTIQUE Cabinet Photo of a African American Man, Taken in Corinth, Mississippi c. DESCRIPTION: Nice, very rare early cabinet photo of a young African American man, completely dressed up in a 3-piece suit with a bow tie, etc. He also has some sort of small badge or medal on his lapel, signifying membership in some organization. On the bottom the photographer's name is listed, "Beaty & Sedberry", Corinth, Mississippi. This came from an album with other Mississippi African American photos. Good early antique photos of African Americans. Are very scarce and hard enough to find today, BUT THIS ONE IS ESPECIALLY NICE AND INTERESTING. Obviously the number taken was small to start with given the cost of photography, etc. And many of these did not survive over the years. AND THIS ONE IS DIFFERENT AND NICER THAN MOST. This is no newer than 1880 - 1890 or so. Standard cabinet photo size and dimensions.
This format was common at the time. Would make a great gift for the collectors in your family.
This came with a collection of a number of early photos of African American subjects. Some are cabinet photos, identified with photographer names, and all from various towns in Mississippi.
