Lot 35 Photos African American Marine in Hawaii 1960 Jazz Club USO Kitchen Staff
A collection of 35 uncaptioned photographs (two color, the rest black and white). Smith, headquarters of US Fleet Marine Force, Pacific. In addition to portraits of the soldier in and out of uniform and images of the men in their rooms or on parade, the group contains 18 photographs of parties and dances, likely held at USO clubs, depicting a multi-racial group socializing together, drinking Schlitz beer and dancing to music played by a local Jazz band, of which several images are included. The lot also includes two images of food preparation in an industrial kitchen, identifying the Marine as a cook, possibly at these clubs, along with a booklet titled "Soldier's Individual Pay Record", possibly identifying the marine as Andrew J. Photos overall in excellent condition, a bit curled.
