He was was born in Ireland and moved to Savannah, Georgia in 1866. He moved to Aiken in 1870. He's famous for his stereoview images of the South, especially of black people during the Reconstruction period after the Civil War. They were recently freed slaves and he wanted to document their everyday lives.

CAPTION: The photographer's mark says Characteristic Southern Scenes. SIZE: 4.25 by 7 inches. CONDITION: The edges are worn.
